While taking the Ctrain (public transportation), I was lost in thought just stareing down aimlessly when I realized as well as the lady in front of my that my gaze seemed to be directed in shall we say inappropriate areas. This incident begs the question what are the proper social procedures to follow in situations? I'm sure everyone has had to endure uncomfortable silences and akward public gaffs mainly caused by an uncertainty of what to do.
This could be solved by reading a book on ettiquite but really who would spend the time reading a book (let alone an ettiquite book), if you're lucky you may catch a daytime talk show that deals with the subject but really that is as likely as Oprah bitch slapping Dr. Phil.
It would be so much easier we weren't such an uptight society, when you think about they probably had a lot more freedom in the dark ages (though admittingly much shorter life spans) than today.
I wonder how much of it just to cover oneself from critizism, other than a respect for others.
Just today I had the misfortune to fall in the snow which I find really embarrasing, while another group of students just laughed, only one old guy asked if I was alright. In all fairness I was fine and the fall only injured my pride, but I wonder what would have occured if I did incur injury.
This leads to the fun of watching the social dynamics of a ride on the bus - how you may ask, well just observe. Its interesting especially when every seat is taken and the next person to get on has to decide who will they sit beside; will it be the funny smelling man with the onion, the babbling older lady, the businessman, the attractive white lady, or the punk wearing headphones. Depending on the person who the subject is you can get a variety of results including the descision to just stand at the back. Probably the exception would be old people who usually sit at the closest seat to the exit. So next time you take the bus take the time to be entertained by the observation of others - but not in a creepy way.
